Grounding rituals for winter

Now that winter is around the corner it can be good to be aware that maybe we need to shift our behaviour a bit in order to prepare the body and mind for a new season.

4 tips that will make the transition smooth

Our body requires different movements during winter time and now before the transition from fall to winter happens it can be good to start preparing and creating new routines. Here are 4 tips that could be inspiring to implement into your days:

  1. Soft movements and mindfulness

Implement soft movements and mindful practices into your routine.  When it gets colder and darker outside it can be comforting to practice grounding and calming practices such as meditation, soft yoga classes, and breathwork.  Our challenge “Recenter yourself” is a 2 weeks program that gives you all of these classes and helps you recenter before entering a new season or period. Due to the cold, our muscles can tighten up so we can lose our range of motion.  Yoga and stretching will be really helpful during this period.

2. Warming activities.

Taking a warm bath is not only calming but also helps to relieve stress and relaxes the muscles which can get tight due to the cold.  Going to saunas, and steam rooms, and applying warm pads on shoulders, lower back, or feet can also be very beneficial. Having warm drinks such as green tea or warm water with lemon is also a great way to warm up the body. Just something that gives your body some extra heat.

3. Get fresh air

Even though it is rather cold outside it is important to get fresh air. It can be that you open the windows even though it is only for a few minutes after you come home just to get the air circulating better and feel the fresh breeze.  It is so energizing and will prevent you from getting headaches or sluggishness from heavy air which sometimes happens if we forget to open the windows.  Another way is to go for a short walk and breath in the fresh air and get energy from it.

4. Make your home cozy

Keep it tidy around you, light candles, and dim the lights.  This time of the year is so cozy and calming and you should take advantage of it because it is all up to us how we welcome it.  When you keep things tidy around you it calms your head as well and you feel more relaxed.  Light candles and dim your lights for a calmer environment.

Make the most of it

Welcoming and preparing mentally for this new period can help to cope with it better. If you are sensitive to the cold make sure to do warming activities, even though it is just having a cup of tea.  Even though this season can be hard for some let’s do what we can to make the most of it.
