5 tips to practice being present

Who doesn’t know the feeling of the weeks passing by like the wind? We are living in a very fast-paced lifestyle and things around us are moving fast, potentially missing out on very important things around us.

If we’re too busy moving onto the next thing, we can never stop and focus on what’s happening right in front of us. By making space for what really matters, we can feel more full by appreciating what’s going on right in front of us. The key to doing this is to slow down. Here are 5 tips on how to start.

  1. Focus on Your Breath

Pay more attention during the day to how you breathe and notice your inhale and exhale. You’ll be amazed at how this can create a pause in everything you do and bring calmness to your mind and body. Read about the 4-7-8 breathing technique that you can do to practice.

  2. Take in Your Surroundings

When you’re rushing to get to the next thing, open your eyes to what’s in front of you. Maybe you’ll see a new opportunity waiting to be explored or see your projects from a different perspective.

  3. Simplify Your To-Do List

Assess what you’re spending your time on. Can you combine any of your tasks to make them more efficient? Or can you remove a couple of things from the list that doesn’t need your attention and can wait?

  4. Accept Your Limitations

Sometimes you won’t be able to get it all done, and that’s okay. Sometimes life gets in the way, and we can’t do everything. Don’t beat yourself up for this.

  5. Be Mindful

Rather than overthink the past or try to predict the future, focus your attention on the present so you can experience a fuller life.

Remember, to slow down, breathe and take one thing at a time. You’ll be surprised and delighted by how much you still get done, and how much better it all feels.
