Meditation evening routine
Taking a meditation class in the evening is almost like a shower for your mind - you can cleanse and refresh your mind after a long day, just the way you would take a shower and cleanse your body. Let the day and everything go. All the thoughts, what you did, what you didn't do, the good, the bad... you can let go of everything you experienced and come back to a "reset mode" before it's time to sleep and start a new day tomorrow.
Refresh and reset
When we are able to refresh and reset our minds with meditation, we also prepare ourselves for a good night's sleep in a very effective way. We might experience that we have fewer thoughts in our head, or at least that we don't engage emotionally and energetically as much when thoughts arrive. We turn down the volume a bit and it can feel easier to just let thoughts go and not pay as much attention to them, which could make it easier to fall asleep quicker as well as sleep better and deeper.
Get better sleep
We all know those nights when we feel stressed going to bed and have had a hard time to wind down, but also waking up in the middle of the night or perhaps even before our alarm goes off because we feel a bit stressed about the day we have ahead. In order to avoid that feeling and experience, meditation could definitely help. Also, keeping a journal and writing down any thoughts and reflections after your meditation practice can also help to clear your mind before going to sleep. It can feel good to just empty your head completely in the evening and leave your thoughts on a piece of paper instead.
Tips for a good evening routine
Schedule in a meditation order to establish an evening routine that includes meditation, a good first thing to do is to schedule it. Set an alarm and write it in your calendar in order to make it happen. What we don't prioritize won't happen! Also, squeeze it in between other habits you have in the evening. Maybe you stretch for a few minutes every night? Drink a cup of tea or read a chapter in a book? Try to stack your evening meditation routine onto another habit you're already doing.
Moreover, make sure to create a cozy environment and setting for your practice. Light some candles and maybe burn incense. You can use essential oils, pick an oracle card, or pick a favorite crystal to hold in your hand. Be creative and create the space and setting you love - there is no right or wrong.
