Finding time to exercise as a busy mom
Being a mom with small children and working full time makes it hard to find time for yourself, not to mention fitting in a workout in your busy day.
We all know how important a healthy body and mind are, but when you haven't found your inspiration, exercise may be a long way down your priority list.
Finding an exercise you enjoy and getting into a workout routine doesn’t have to be time-consuming, boring, or even particularly hard.
The key to exercising as a busy mom is choosing the right kind of practice. Something that fits into your schedule, brings you results and you enjoy. Once you have read how Withsara is helping women in the same circumstances, we hope you'll feel inspired to start your journey.
"I have two small children with only 18 months between them and Withsara workouts have really helped me build up my strength (and restore my pelvic floor!). The fact that classes are short is amazing for us with small kids. It makes working out possible despite almost no time for ourselves!!"
There may be many reasons you are not exercising the way you would like to. We want to address the most common problems women who train with Withsara have faced and propose a doable solution for each one.
Problem: Finding the time
When you’re a busy mom, it’s easy not to prioritize yourself. There’s often something else that needs to be done besides taking care of yourself.
Solution:
A good workout does not need to take one hour. Plan your workout week in advance and use the gaps in your calendar to get in a session. It can be in the morning before the family wakes up, during lunchtime, or after the kids fall asleep. You can get a great and sweaty workout done in 30 minutes at home, even 15 minutes. If a slot opens up, be prepared to use it as ‘Your time’ and take care of your well-being. All of the Wtihsara workouts can be completed in 30 minutes, anywhere, at any time, and require no equipment.
“As a mom I no longer have the time I had before to go to yoga studios or do cardio 5 times a week. My time is precious with a little girl in my life, and the short but effective classes at WithSara are just what I need. I can always squeeze in a half hour workout or less and feel happier afterwards. I am already feeling the benefit of having more energy and a calmer mindset.”
Problem: Not finding an exercise you enjoy and inspires you
The key to consistency in working out is finding what you enjoy. If you enjoy something, you are going to look forward to doing it instead of looking for ways to avoid it.
Solution:
It can take a few tries to find what works for you, but when you have found it and are having fun working out, you keep coming back to it and it will motivate you to continue. Withsara has 9 class types so that every member can find a workout that they enjoy. Accomplish strength and toning through pilates, barre and HIIT classes, or more mindful exercises, with yoga or stretches.
“Finally home workouts you look forward to! Perfect length and a great variety of exercises, never thought 30 minutes could give you such sore muscles... I'm feeling a lot stronger, healthier and happier since adding Withsara’s classes to my daily routine, best workout choice I've made!”
Problem: Not being able to stick to your workout routine
Getting into a good workout routine takes work, a strong mindset, and consistency. The easy part is to have intentions, the complex part is sticking to it and realizing that results come from small changes that are applied consistently over time.
Solution:
Changing your behavior is hard and getting into the workout routine requires discipline. Following the solutions to the problems above will put you on the right path but there are more options. The most popular feature on Withsara is the Weekly schedule. It’s an absolute member favorite, as over 70% of members follow it. We plan the workout week for you with the newest workouts across all class categories on Withsara, even the rest days. So you only have to show up, work out, and reap the rewards.
“After I joined Withsara I feel more energetic, having a workout schedule made me able to look forward to exercising and feeling better in my body. The weekly schedule has been really great. It helps me keep a consistent workout routine and makes me want to stick to the schedule.”
Problem: Training during and after pregnancy
During pregnancy, you might be unsure what you are allowed to do and therefore it is important to choose something that makes you feel good, helps you with keeping up your strength and also prepares you for delivery. After pregnancy, you are taking care of your wonderful baby, adjusting to the changes that follow pregnancy, and getting used to your new role. Therefore finding a safe environment where you can build up strength safely is important, not taking too much time off your day.
Solution:
Staying active throughout your pregnancy is not only beneficial for you but also for the baby. Let that be your motivation to move during your pregnancy, no matter what the movement is. If you are experiencing a high-risk pregnancy, and are not able to stay active, practice your breathing and let the breath both strengthen your pelvic floor and prepare you for labor. Exercising after pregnancy, when you have had a green light from your doctor, can be your moment of “Your time” and will be highly appreciated every time you manage to do it as soon as it becomes part of your routine.
“I have been a member from the start and that is not going to change any time soon. WithSara has helped me build up strength before pregnancy, during and now after. THE best workout format out there that is so easy to fit into a hectic schedule”
These or just some of the most common problems we hear about. There are many others that might be affecting your ability to work out or stay consistent. Just remember to be gentle with yourself. There are going to be days when you skip working out. There will be times when life just gets in the way. That is very normal but not let your head and negative thoughts take control.

Hi! I'm Sara, the founder of Withsara. I have been a fitness group instructor, Barre teacher and Yoga teacher for over 10 years. I am also a certified Nutritional Health Coach from IIN in New York, USA.
After giving birth to my two beautiful daughters, I have had to build up my body twice after my pregnancies. With my experience, I have created a workout that is a great combination of low impact, functional movement, pilates, barre, and yoga. It builds up deep core strength, creates sustainable and lasting change, relieves physical tension and mental stress, and gives you an overall healthier and happier body.
